Review: CAN Waterloo

I took a trip down to Waterloo on the outskirts of Liverpool last night to try out a brand new restaurant that is 100% plastic-free and 100% vegan! CAN Waterloo opened its doors only four weeks ago and wants to lead the way in eco-friendly dining. The menu changes daily and they try to use as much local ingredients as possible. One staple feature of the menu, however, are their vegan PIES! Nom-nom.


The restaurant interior is really cute with lots of plants and a nice relaxed vibe. Nearly everything inside is recycled/upcycled in-keeping with its eco-friendly ethos. We had a lovely chat with the owner and he told us that the till-point used to be a DJ booth at a nightclub!


The menu changes daily and often has fresh, healthy bowls full of delicious ingredients. We arrived a little late and there was only pies left on the menu – but i was NOT complaining!


I chose the Moroccan Butterbean pie which came with a side of mushy peas. The pie crust was so delicious and crumbly. The butterbeans inside were warmly spiced with soft North African spices.


In all honesty the pie could have done with a little more sauce inside, or a gravy to pour over the top, but overall the flavour was great.


It tasted even better washed down with this crisp, fragrant ‘Penny Lane’ pale-ale from Mad Hatter Brewing Company.


And we couldn’t resist a tasty, home-made vegan brownie for dessert!


They even stock some cruelty-free soaps from Gentle Cosmetic!


Definitely recommend a trip to CAN Waterloo if you’re in the area!
